This department was one of the main reasons for which ELSA International was founded, ELSA Cluj-Napoca focusing most of its efforts, as well, for an efficient collaboration with legal institutions for the purpose of offering internships to students and young lawyers.
Through STEP, over 500 students and young lawyers carry out internships in countries that are ELSA members. Locally, members of ELSA Cluj-Napoca have the possibility to go abroad for internships in institutions with which the ELSA groups in that particular country collaborate and in return ELSA members from other countries can come in Bucharest for internships in Romanian institutions.
The opportunity to get acquainted with different legal and cultural environments through an internship abroad represents an excellent means of personal and professional development through which a young practitioner gives himself/herself the possibility of a full perspective regarding law and society in general.
Consequently, STEP contributes to the development of society in its whole.
This programme has a series of particular traits and principles:
- it completes the education of the person carrying out the internship through its particular practical side
- the duration of the internship varies between 2 and 78 weeks
- the applicant must be an ELSA member
- the application and selection process is made through ELSA Online, a system in which the application form, as well as the form containing the conditions to be fulfilled by the applicant are introduced, and as soon as there is compatibility between the two forms, the student or the young lawyer may be selected for that certain internship
- the applicant must pay a fee
- the selected applicant must be offered complete accommodation or, if not, a paid internship with a sum of money covering the expenses of complete accommodation.
