One of the main areas, AA can be best described through “legal education”, as it aims to promote this aspect among ELSA members, as well as within the legal environment in which ELSA Cluj-Napoca is an active pawn.
As a relevant example for the important part the association plays in the academic legal environment, one of the Vice President Academic Activities’ attributions is that of a mediator between the association and important figures in the field.
The main activities through which the department reaches its goal of promoting legal education are:
- Moot courts
- Guide for Legal Studies in Europe
- Legal Research Programme
- Essay contests
- Selected Papers on European Legislation
Moot courts are a practical way for students to train themselves for their future career as a law practitioner, regardless of the path they choose, as the events improve objective qualities such as knowledge in a certain legal area, as well as more personal qualities regarding personal development, as rhetoric, public speaking, and self confidence.
These events are organised:
- locally – Moot Court Competition (MCC)
- nationally – National Moot Court Competition (NMCC)
- internationally – ELSA Moot Court Competition (EMC2)
Guide for Legal Studies in Europe (GLSE) is targeted towards students that wish to study abroad and consists of all the information needed by such a student, including information about professions, universities, and the legal specific of each country.
Legal Research Programme (LRP) essentially represents the AA communication between Local Groups for an exhaustive analysis of a certain legal problem through the academic contribution of each group.
The essay contests ELSA organises gives students the possibility to practice their writing and editing skills of legal papers, as well as to conduct an assiduous research for a complete study of the subject.
Apart from the latter activities, an essay implies a more individual handling rather than a collective one.
Selected Papers on European Legislation (SPEL) is an ELSA International publication which is a compilation of law students papers. It comes out twice a year.
